CNN tells about “Covid-19 vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds is safe and shows ‘robust’ antibody response, Pfizer says“. Pfizer has recently told about a study they did. In the study, they gave over 2,000 children under 12 a smaller, two regimen dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. With the results, they say the children had a good response.
While I do not know the full results of the study, based on the article I am wary. The article mentions that Pfizer gave over 2,000 children 1/3 of the amount given to adults in the same two regimented way. Next, it mentions that Pfizer compared the data to the data of 16-25-year-olds. Through this, they determined that this regimen with the vaccine worked well for younger children. Pfizer plans to ask the FDA for emergency use. I disagree.
First, I doubt the slight rise of children getting Covid is going to continue. This rise seems to correspond with school starting. In my own life, I’ve noticed that children tend to become sick in the first month as their bodies adjust to interacting with more people. This does not mean children need to receive an experimental vaccine.
Most importantly, the vaccine for children is experimental and no long-term studies have been done. Bodies change as we age. There is no data to show that giving these children an experimental drug will not affect them in the future. We have no idea how the vaccine may affect them as they age. I feel that more experimentation and long-term data need to be gathered. It does not seem safe to give young children something that may change them without knowing how. Basically I disagree with giving the Covid-19 vaccine to children.
