Daily Courant – First English Daily Paper

Daily Courant

1702 sees the publication of the first issue of the first English daily newspaper called “Daily Courant”.

On Fleet Street in London, E. Mallet started publishing the Daily Courant. The E in E. Mallet could stand for Edward or Elizabeth. This newspaper consisted of one page of news on one side and advertisements on the other. Mallet chose to write an impartial paper focused on news and foreign affairs. Mallet printed the paper for a few months before selling it to Samuel Buckley. It lasted until 1735 when it merged with the Daily Gazetteer.
