The Chernobyl disaster occurred on April 26, 1986. Just over an hour after midnight, radiation escaped the plant, affecting thousands.
In Ukraine lays a ghost town called Chernobyl. Though few have visited, most have heard the name. A disaster occurred in this town that scared the world. In this town lay a nuclear power plant. Unfortunately, a flaw in the design and inexperienced workers resulted in problems.
Workers incorrectly shut off power to nuclear reactor 4, resulting in instability. When they tried to correct it, the reactor exploded. Fire and radiation left the building. Firemen swarmed to help put out the fire, but they could do nothing for the radiation.
Within a few days, they evacuated over 350,000 from around the town. Two people died due to the explosion. Another 30 people died from acute radiation. Though more people have died the health organizations have not linked them to it. Now more regulations rule of power plants to avoid another Chernobyl disaster.
