Through Google News, we learn from The Verge that “Today I learned that card grading companies are drowning in Pokémon cards“. It seems that these cards have inundated many companies that grade cards on condition and rarity. People wanting to have their cards graded find that they have to wait months. It seems that Pokemon cards have flooded these companies.
Rare, perfect condition Pokemon cards can sell for hundreds of dollars. Even the most common card in perfect condition might sell for up to $40. Card grading companies, card makers, and regular stores have to deal with this craze. Some stores have even called the police on people camping out waiting for the restocking of the cards. While one card grading company bought two warehouses to hold the number of cards it had received to grade.
Sadly, other cards from games like Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh get lost in the shuffle unless their owners want to pay extra. I can’t help but wonder how long this craze will last. Will Pokemon cards really stay popular enough for these people to get their money’s worth?
