NBC talks about the “U.S. Capitol needs permanent fencing around complex after deadly riot, acting chief says.” According to the acting chief of the Capitol Police, the U.S. capitol needs to have a permanent fence around the grounds and more accessible forces. The chief believes that these acts will help prevent any other deadly riots from occurring. It would also have the effect of separating the government building from the people.
Before the riots, people have had access to tour the building and walk among its gardens. Putting a fence up may show security, but people would essentially be barred from the grounds. I can’t help but feel like a permanent fence and more accessible forces would take us one step closer to a dystopian future similar to The Hunger Games. Our forefathers created this government so that the people could access them. They serve the people, not the other way around.
