When they took it home to clean it, they discovered a special surprise. The toy contained a bag of drugs, specifically fentanyl pills. The family immediately turned the pills over to the police.
Police remind people to carefully buy used or handmade toys. This was not the first time a toy was used to hide a special surprise. When buying used, check and clean the toy immediately after purchase just as the parents did. Thrift stores have great buys, just beware of the surprises.
