Elon Musk Takes Over Twitter – Good or Bad?

Musk

Just recently, Elon Musk decided to buy out Twitter. Many people know Elon Musk as the owner of Tesla and SpaceX. As one of the richest men in the world, he had the money to buy Twitter. Except this change worries some people, while others rejoice. Let’s look at both sides.

Good

To read the side of people rejoicing at the takeover I turned to The Daily Wire, a group known for conservative views. “‘Absolutely Monstrous Win For Free Speech’: Conservatives Cheer Musk Buying Twitter“, they wrote. According to this article, many people have taken to Twitter to congratulate and thank Musk. Through his leadership, they feel that people will have more freedom to say their opinions. Musk has often expressed his desire to allow people to speak their minds without censorship.

Bad

On the other hand, people feel that this leadership will only promote and encourage more hate and violence. CNN, a more progressive group, says, “Twitter has been focused on ‘healthy conversations.’ Elon Musk could change that“. In their article, they detail steps that the previous CEO made to promote “healthy conversation”. They have tried to achieve this goal by banning accounts that they say promote hate, violence, misleading, or misinformation. People, that feel Elon Musk taking over would be bad, think that his leadership would set back all the work Twitter has done.

My Opinion on Musk Taking Over Twitter

Simply, I think Musk taking over Twitter is good. I have often thought that in order to grow and learn, people needed to have a chance to express their opinions and views. Then, if these opinions and views are erased then no one learns and grows. Science grew through others questioning the previous thoughts of other scientists. Though sometimes that language can come across as hurtful, I think we need it to grow individually and as a community. For me, I look forward to seeing what happens next.
