Honestly, I hate masks. I do not think they do anything more than restrict breathing. It’s annoying and unsanitary. Yet, I wear them as directed. That may seem a contradiction. You may also think I avoided the COVID-19 vaccine, but I didn’t. With such strong opinions, why do I wear masks and have my children wear them? It’s simple. I trust in God.
I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. First, we have 13 Articles of Faith that clearly and concisely describe our beliefs. The twelfth Article of Faith says, “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.” This means we believe in following the law of the land. Therefore, when the government directs us to wear masks, I put them on.
Next, we are led by a man called of God, a prophet, named Russell M. Nelson. I know he is a prophet with the power of God and guides and directs us here on earth. Recently, he directed members to wear masks for our church meetings. With my trust and love of the prophet, I put one on for my meetings.
While I may disagree with wearing these cloth or paper coverings, I wear them. I follow the laws of the land and the Prophet. Still, I hope people figure out that masks for the general population will not help much of anything. Instead, let’s pray for the safety and well-being of those most affected by this disease. Then let us remember to not let fear guide our decisions. While not easy we can do this and we can get through the worry of COVID-19.
