CBS News informs of a planetary event in “Jupiter and Saturn will come within 0.1 degrees of each other, forming the first visible “double planet” in 800 years“. Scientists call the event the great conjunction, meaning a meeting of objects in the sky. The last time Jupiter and Saturn came this close was in 1226.
Jupiter and Saturn pass each other every twenty years. This great conjunction only occurs every 800 years. It’s a once in a lifetime event. Saturn and Jupiter come closer than the diameter of a full moon.
The event culminates on December 21, 2020. While southern skies may see the two planets longer, northern skies still have a view. Take a chance and go look at the double planet.
