Order of Templars or Knights Templar

In 1129 the Roman Catholic Church formally approved the Order of Templars at the Council of Troyes.

By 1129, the Order of Templars had been around for at least a few years. While created as a monastic order, the Order included some married men. Knights created the Order to protect people on pilgrimages. While the council approved the Order they issued a few rules that the members had to follow. The rules dealt with membership, dress, and conduct. The order still exists in some form today.
