Zealandia Emerges From Concealment

Zealandia

In 2017, The research journal “GSA Today” announced the discovery of a new mostly underwater continent in the South Pacific named Zealandia.

Through many years of research, scientists have gathered information about the continents. They put together a list of criteria for a landmass to count as a continent. Then more scientists went looking and discovered a landmass, mostly underwater, that met the criteria. They called it Zealandia.

This newly discovered continent’s landmass has only about 6% of the land above water. The rest lay below the south sea. The scientists say that the land would have been above during the ice age. They hope that with this eighth continent they can gather more data to help further studies.
