Easter Week – Cleansing the Temple

cleansing the temple

While we do not know the exact dates of the last week of Christ’s mortal life, we do know the actions he took during that time. This week, as we count down to Easter, I will share a little about each day of his last week. Monday started with cleansing the temple.

On Sunday, Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem with much pomp. People lined the streets celebrating him as they waved palms and laid down cloaks. Then on Monday, Christ visited the Jerusalem temple. When he walked into the courtyard he did not find peace. Instead he found merchants buying and selling. The temple had become a place of business.

Upset at how people treated the temple, Christ removed them. He kicked them out of the temple saying “My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.” Finally quiet after cleansing the temple, the house served its purpose as a house of prayer.
