On April 15, 1865, Abraham Lincoln died from a gunshot would to the head while he watched a play.

As president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln lead the country through the civil war. As part of the civil war, he released all people from slavery. He also made slavery illegal in the United States as a whole. Many that lived in the south and relied on slavery for their living did not like what Lincoln had done.

Towards the end of the Civil War, John Wilkes Booth decided to try and capture the president. That did not work as the president did not show where expected. Then Booth decided to assassinate the president. When the president and his wife went to see a play, Booth entered the seats and shot the president. Lincoln died hours later. He became the first president assassinated.
