CBS News tells the tragic story about a “Kansas City journalist dies after being struck by a stray bullet that came through her apartment window“. On Friday a friend found young Aviva Okeson-Haberman struck by a bullet in her first-floor apartment. Though quickly taken to the hospital, she died Sunday from the gunshot wound.
The bullet that killed this young, bright life seems to be a stray bullet. A stray bullet means a bullet that hits an unintended target after leaving the gun. This one came through the apartment window. Sadly, this journalist had her future extinguished early. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Aviva Okeson-Haberman.
This case illustrates the reason not to fire warning shots. President Biden once suggested that police fire a shot into the air as a warning before shooting deadly suspects. All that warning shot would do is hit unintended victims and extinguish the lives of good people. Buy a gun, practice with it, and hit what you aim at so you never have a stray bullet. That is what the police do, and that is what we should do.
