Congress Committee Begins Questioning

committee

ABC News tells about how “As Jan. 6 probe begins, Dem vows: ‘We have to get it right’“. Democrat Bennie Thompson from Mississippi leads the committee. They decided to start by questioning the police officers and security guards.

Since many know Thompson has an even personality, they hope that this will help in this controversial committee. Still, most of the democrats in Congress agree with having this committee. Though, most of the republicans do not. The committee wants to figure out what happened on January 6 and how they can prevent it from happening again.

On January 6, 2021, Congress met to certify the presidential election votes. On this day, thousands of people gathered outside the building to protest the certification. The people felt that someone rigged the election, making it invalid. Of the thousands, some took their protest too far. They invaded the building. From what the news and social media show, the people ran around and acted crazy. Still, no congresspeople were hurt. The only death happened to a protestor shot by a guard. The news and democrats call this day an insurrection.

Opinion on Committee

According to the online Merriam-Webster Dictionary, insurrection means “an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government”. Based on what I’ve seen in the news and social media, this was not an insurrection. Though, these people went crazy, attacked a building, not once did they attempt to revolt or overthrow the government.

Basically, a revolution could be termed an insurrection. The Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP), also known as CHAZ, in Seattle, Washington might be termed an insurrection. This group attempted to create a place that did not allow the current government to work. This is a form of revolting against the government.

In my opinion, the January 6 riot consisted of people that became too excited. Then, in a form of mob mentality, they attacked the building. There was no reason, purpose, or even specific cause. I think we should blame Congress for it. Much of their racist, bigoted, hateful rhetoric has fueled the flames that have caused continuous rioting. No committee is needed, just hold the politicians accountable for their actions and words that have separated the country.
