How to Get Out of Bed Early

how to get out of bed

I hate early mornings. Getting out of bed to do exercise feels like torture. Honestly getting out of bed before eight in the morning feels like torture. Unfortunately, I have three children who take after their Dad, who wakes up early all the time. This means that if I want any time for myself, I either rise earlier or stay up late. I don’t have the fortitude to stay up late and get up early, so I’ve chosen to wake up earlier than my children. If you are like me, here are some tips for how to get out of bed.

Make A Plan

First, decide why you want to get out of bed. What do you hope to accomplish? For me, I rise early so that I can do my workouts without interruption. I don’t like exercise and by myself, I can go faster than if I have a child or two running around me. Plus it’s safer. Decide the reason you want to get up.

The next part of making a plan is planning bedtime and wake-up times. When do you need to wake up to accomplish your goal? Then decide when you need to go to bed in order to wake up. Once you have these two numbers, think about what you need to do to accomplish going to bed at that time and how long it takes. Then plan to start early enough to get to bed on time. For example, I start my bedtime routine at about eight in the evening. This allows me time to do a night routine and relax a little before I go to bed. I sleep better this way.

Set an Alarm

Next, to get out of bed set an alarm. You have to train your body to wake up at the time you want. It won’t automatically just start waking up at a specific time. For this reason, you need to set an alarm. With your plan, you’ve figured out when you need to get out of bed so set an alarm to wake you at that time.

Now when the alarm goes off, don’t hit snooze. It may feel way too early to rise and you just want to sleep a few more minutes. Ignore that feeling, it will go away as you start moving. After hitting the alarm remind yourself of your reason for rising. You may also need to remind yourself of the importance of this reason. Then get out of bed.

Conclusion to How to Get Out of Bed

Does this feel too easy? That’s because it is. The hard part isn’t getting out of bed. No, the hard part is finding a reason motivating enough to get out of bed. No matter what you do, you will not get out of bed if your reason does not motivate you to do it. You have to decide that waking up and getting out of bed at that time is important. Once you have that motivating reason, then the rest becomes easy. Find the reason, then make the plan to get to bed at a decent time, and setting an alarm will help you accomplish getting out of bed in the morning.
