Helicopter Flight Happens on Mars

MSNBC News tells us that “NASA launches tiny Mars chopper ‘Ingenuity’ on a historic flight“. The tiny four-pound helicopter name Ingenuity hitched a ride to Mars with the rover Perseverance. The scientists designed the helicopter to work on solar power. They also had to take in the difference in atmosphere on Mars.

After a week’s delay, the scientists had the chance to launch Ingenuity. For a first flight, they just wanted to achieve lift-off. They needed to see if it would work. They waited three hours after the attempt to find out the results. Amazingly it worked. The little chopper rose into the air then touched down. Short for a first flight, but great news. They plan to do longer flights after the solar battery recharges.
